The Saturn UI (menus, sidebar, mod cards, stores, the emote wheel) draws solid, borderless panels. Explore a glassier look and general UI polish.

Ideas

  • Glass panels: panel backgrounds that are translucent and blur what's behind them (the world or the title screen), instead of opaque Theme.BACKGROUND / Theme.PRIMARY fills.
  • Borders: a thin, low-contrast border (possibly a subtle top highlight) on backgrounds and widgets, so panels read as separate layers.
  • Theme settings: make the look configurable in Theme: background opacity, blur strength, border colour and width, with presets such as solid (current) and glass.
  • General pass: consistent spacing, radii (BG_RADIUS / WIDGET_RADIUS), hover and pressed states, and text contrast on translucent backgrounds.

Where things are now (common/.../ui)

  • SaturnScreen already has backgroundOpacity and backgroundBlur for the whole screen. Blur is screen-wide rather than per panel.
  • RenderScope has drawRoundedRectangle and drawBorder. There's no rounded border and no per-panel blur yet.
  • Theme colours are all fully opaque (0xFF…).
  • Panels are drawn directly with Theme colours, for example in Sidebar and SaturnModule.

Open questions

  • Per-panel blur: blurring only behind a panel probably needs a version-specific render path. Minecraft's blur post effect and render pipeline changed across 1.21.x, so this has to work on every version module.
  • Cost and fallback: on low-end machines, fall back to plain translucency without blur.
  • Readability: keep text readable over bright scenes.

Done in saturnclientmc/common#8 and #40: glass behind translucent menus and widgets on every version (1.21.4 to 1.21.11), cut to the same rounded shape as their backgrounds, with separate world, menu and widget blurs. Panel, button and card transparency now follows the theme colors' own alpha, and panels keep their outlines.
